His name was Tony Scro, and he was a senior who Played a half year at the beginning of the fabulous five's winning streak.

Just before he graduated in February,Tony led Tech to an amazing triple overtime win that was, in the opinion of those who attended it, the greatest high school games ever played in the entire D.C. area. The stars were Bob Kessler of GW high School who scored more than 30 points and Tony who led tech and also scored more than 30.

Although this team included Kernan, Breen, and Marshal, Tony was the star who kept Tech in the gameand a full house of screaming fans on their feet throughout all four quarters. Kessler led GW that night with a number of long (Easily three pointers today) set shots (feet glued to the floor) that had GW fans going crazy until the last few seconds when Tech pulled out a win.

Both Tony and Bob were magnificent and that game alone should have won both of them all high honors. Nevertheless, only Kessler was recognized for his skills Although Bob went on to star at Maryland. I never learned whether Tony ever played basketball after that night. I believe, however, that any university coach would have loved to have had him on their team. The only shame is that he was as good a basketball player an anyone could imagine and it is still a shame that he never received any credit for what he contributed to the success of Tech's fabulous five team.

I have never heard anyone discuss Tony's performance during that game and how he was the reason Tech began their long record of success. I would love any fan who knew, and watched Tony that night, to comment.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7279381728729964681.post-27968014598662709582019-12-27T21:02:00.670-08:002019-12-27T21:02:00.670-08:00 Do you have any info for the 85-86 seasonTheodore... I grew up in Mount Rainier, MD long ago and my baby sitter's husband showed me old photographs of him playing in a city championship game at Griffith Stadium. Harry played on the line both offense and defense. His nickname was "shorty biggy" My guess is that this would have been between 1919-1922. I was too young to appreciate this then. I lost track of Harry and my baby sitter years ago as they both have passed on.

Thank youmicknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7279381728729964681.post-7624543902715340942014-11-09T19:49:33.309-08:002014-11-09T19:49:33.309-08:00Joe Dunbar Wakefield High School All Met Center 19...Joe Dunbar Wakefield High School All Met Center 1975Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01880417151125361444noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7279381728729964681.post-47139308376218921592013-10-22T08:14:09.268-07:002013-10-22T08:14:09.268-07:00This is tremendous!
